juicing - Did you know that 95% of the vitamins and enzymes our bodies need are found in the juice of raw fruits and vegetables? When you drink juice, highly concentrated vitamins, minerals and enzymes rapidly enter the bloodstream absorbing all of the nutritional benefits of the fruits and vegetables and giving your digestive organs a much-needed rest. Not only will juicing facilitate weight loss, increased energy levels, strengthened immunity, strong bones and a glowing complexion, it may also reduce chances of heart disease, cancer and strokes, three of the leading causes of death. A growing body of research suggests that most vitamin supplements don’t help prevent chronic disease. I like my easy to clean juicer, Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer, but there are many to choose from.
dried hibiscus flowers - Off the charts anti-oxidants... think grape juice times 100. Use stemmed, sifted and organic (of course) flowers to brew with your favorite green tea. You can also enjoy cold by adding lemonade made with honey, top with a sprig of mint for a lovely new take on the old Arnold Palmer.
living in the light - Shakti Gawain wrote this practical and beautiful book; perfect for learning to trust your inner guidance.
coconut oil - I used to sell you my coconut oil moisturizer, but I think you can create this easily enough on your own. Simply purchase some organic, unrefined coconut oil & a wick (from any good craft store). I would suggest a wide-mouth mason jar, not more than 5 inches tall; place wick in the center of jar, cut to appropriate length/height of jar. melt oil & slowly pour into jar; will harden in less than 75 degrees (or so). Here’s the fun part… you can light the candle prior to getting into the shower & your warm oil will be melted and ready once your shower is over.
Get creative with your creation... for instance, you can add sesame oil (about 1/3) during the winter months especially; this will help your circulation & can keep you a little bit warmer in those cold months. If you like essential oils, you can easily add 5 drops to the melted oil, and stir well before hardening.
meditation - I am very much a student of meditation and need to dedicate myself more to this practice; I am always grateful when I take the time to sit with myself. There are many ways to practice meditation, and you can play with the various styles and teachers to find the way that speaks to you. I love listening to Jai-Jagdeesh or Snatam Kaur on my headphones and lying down on my lawn; I like to soak in the earth's telluric currents (also know as "earthing") to help regulate my own body's systems.
a philosopher's notes - Written by Brian Johnson… this is the single best “bathroom book” ever. Definitely not downplaying the book referencing the bathroom; in fact, I purchased ten of them to give to some special people in my life. I love the tidbits of inspiration the author is both quoting and creating!
yoga - I tried to start this habit several times in my life, once per decade starting in my 20’s… finally stuck in my 40’s! I seriously cannot imagine going through my days without this emotionally physical start to each morning.
music - Lifts my spirits and keeps me on track with the passionate side of my creativity; I listen to music daily and whenever I politely can.
when things fall apart: heart advice for difficult times - A "must read" book for all humans; Pema Chodron masterfully explains the art of living. You do not need to be distressed to read this, and this book is not melodramatic; it simply speaks to the heart about what matters.
nutrition - My muse in my battle with cancer and now in my daily life. The research about our nation’s food supply is actually quite depressing; but once some clarity and good habits are set, creating good food to eat becomes quite simple; and that’s the key really, keeping it clean and simple.
olive oil, sea salt & pepper - My favorite recipe book, written by Jenn Crovato. This is my go-to book for almost any meal; she manages to make vegetables both easy and satisfying, but she doesn't just do vegetables, everyone is invited to enjoy! She combines ingredients with ease.... one of my favorites includes sautéed butternut squash & lentils over a bed of arugula tossed in her apple cider vinaigrette (and her vinaigrettes are tantalizing)!
alaya yoga school - Whether seeking teacher training, advancing your training, or simply want a self-care retreat; you will find what you need at this school, with these teachers, and among your fellow students.
cooking oil - Hands down, the best sautéing oil for your vegetables is an equal mix of: avocado oil, coconut oil & toasted sesame oil (cold-pressed, virgin & organic;-).
women who run with the wolves - Written by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, this book is a true classic... myths and stories of the wild woman archetype; a book that speaks to feral women everywhere:-)
